Using Geoboards in class



In Geometry we can find different materials to teach different things in class, in order to make the learning of the students less monotonous and more fun.One of the most known, is the Geoboard, which is a board with nails around which elastic bands can be looped in order to explore concepts in geometry. The Geoboards were invented and popularised in the 1950's by the egyptian mathematician Caleb Gattegno. Here we have an example of a geoboard:

Using this kind of materials can help the students to have a better understanding of what they are taught while at the same time they are practising and having fun.Students need to see things in a more visual way in order to understand it better, that is why students have more problems with this type of subjects when they are taught in an abstract way. Here we have an example, of a school where the teacher is teaching her students the angles by using a geoboard:
